I’ve been thinking about the upcoming robotaxi event, and I can’t help but wonder, could the new Tesla Roadster be the big “one more thing” announcement? It would definitely fit the bill as something exciting and unexpected.
Here’s my theory: Elon’s not a fan of the free Roadsters that were promised to influencers and early referral program participants (some of them even earned multiple cars). He might use this as a way to sidestep those commitments. Imagine if Tesla announces the Roadster but limits production to a Founders Edition for the first few years, kind of like what they’re doing with the Cybertruck Founders Edition. That version could come with the SpaceX package and all the bells and whistles, but only as a high-spec, fully-loaded model. No base trims would be available.
This would allow Tesla to deliver the Roadster without giving away free cars, satisfying early adopters while keeping costs under control. It’s a classic “have your cake and eat it too” scenario. Plus, it’d generate a ton of buzz at the robotaxi event, tying together Tesla’s vision for the future with a flagship product.
What do you all think? Could this be the plan, or am I reading too much into it?
